drewwallace asked: Love the work! Have for a long time. I have two questions. The first is when you were starting off, how did you find models beyond your friends? And then the second is, realizing it's not all about the camera/lens and it's more about knowing the light, I still gotta ask: For indoor shoots, what type/brand of camera and lenses or type of lights are you using?
Fantastic questions. 1) Before I shot my friends and family, I actually started shooting inanimate objects. Stuffed bears and stuff. Family and friends was actually an upgrade. To answer your question, I started off on Model Mayhem as everyone else did. In the beginning, I couldn’t find a model to save my life. But you build your reputation over time and soon you’re shooting paid tests with agencies.
For 95% of what I do now, I shoot a Sony A7R with a Metabones adapter and Canon lenses. A generic Frankenstein of sorts. Alienbees in my studio though I get to play with Profotos when I’m on jobs and locations.
